Training on sustainable beekeeping, marketing and quality control
September 16th – 20th, 2024
This intensive five-day training program was meticulously designed to advance the principles of agroecology through a professionalized community enterprise approach. Recognizing the ecological and economic significance of apiculture, the workshop brought together experts and practitioners to explore the intersection of traditional beekeeping and modern veterinary science. The program specifically targeted the enhancement of food safety protocols and agricultural productivity across Asia. By moving beyond basic honey extraction, the curriculum empowered participants with a holistic understanding of hive ecosystems, ensuring that local beekeeping initiatives can scale into sustainable, quality-driven enterprises that support both human nutrition and environmental health.

Detailed Program Schedule
Day 1-2: Biological & Technical Foundations
The first two days were dedicated to the fundamental biology of the honeybee and colony management. A practical field visit to the Ramnagar Bee Farm allowed participants to observe industrial-scale operations and practical colony management in real-time. This was followed by sessions on honey authenticity research and a deep dive into the current beekeeping landscape in Bangladesh, highlighting the unique challenges and opportunities within the local agricultural sector.
Day 5: Synthesis & Future Strategic Planning
The final day focused on the long-term vision for agroecology and community-led enterprises. Participants engaged in an evaluation of the week's learning outcomes and discussed the implementation of a national digital portal for beekeeping information.
